Bournemouth Draws a Line on Rayan as Man United Circles. The Price Tag Is Steep.

Manchester United has already overhauled its attack once this summer, spending big on Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko. The results from last season speak for themselves: United went from the 15th-worst scoring team in the Premier League to third-best, trailing only champions Arsenal by two goals. But INEOS isn’t done yet. The club wants another winger and a more reliable center-forward than Joshua Zirkzee.

One name that keeps surfacing? Bournemouth’s Rayan. The 19-year-old Brazilian is currently at the World Cup and has been on United’s radar since January. Back then, Bournemouth beat out Tottenham, AC Milan and Real Madrid to sign him from Vasco da Gama for about £24.7 million plus £5.6 million in add-ons. He took Antoine Semenyo’s No. 37 shirt after Semenyo left for Manchester City and immediately made an impact.

Rayan assisted on his debut against Wolves in a 2-0 win. Then he scored in back-to-back games against Aston Villa and Everton. Five goals and two assists in 1,120 minutes of Premier League football for a teenager who just turned 19? That’s a decent return, especially when you consider he acclimated to English football almost immediately.

His size helps. At 6’1″, with the kind of speed and strength scouts call “explosive,” he’s been labeled the “great revelation” of Brazilian football. Comparisons to Adriano have popped up. That’s a lot of pressure for a kid, but he seems to handle it.

United’s Interest Hasn’t Faded

According to a report from Spanish outlet AS, United has held internal talks about reigniting their pursuit. But they’re not alone. Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain, last season’s Champions League finalists, have also made moves to check on a potential transfer.

Rayan primarily plays as a right winger, but he’s played on the left and even up front in Brazil. That versatility is a major selling point for a United team that wants a left-sided attacker as its priority but could use depth everywhere.

Bournemouth’s Response Is Clear

Bournemouth is not interested in selling. Not this summer at least. Rayan’s contract runs through 2031 and includes a release clause worth £86 million. The catch? It doesn’t activate until next year. If United wants to force a move now, they’d likely need to offer a club-record fee. Bournemouth is also digging in on midfielder Alex Scott, another 22-year-old they have no intention of moving this window.

So the path to signing Rayan isn’t straightforward. But United’s interest is real, and the timeline is the key variable. Pay the premium now or wait a year and trigger the clause. Either way, Bournemouth has made its position clear: Rayan is staying for now, and a price that breaks records is the only way to change that.
