Cameron Boozer’s first taste of NBA action looked a lot like his one year at Duke. Dominant. Efficient. And apparently, pretty fun.
The No. 3 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft made his Summer League debut Saturday for the Memphis Grizzlies, and it went about as well as anyone could have hoped. Memphis demolished the Oklahoma City Thunder 111-74 in Salt Lake City, a game where the Grizzlies led by 11 after the first quarter and never looked back.
Boozer played 24 minutes and put up 15 points, four rebounds and four assists. But what stood out to him wasn’t his own stat line. It was how the team played together.
“We’ve got an unselfish group, you know I think that’s fun basketball,” Boozer told reporters after the game, via Grind City Media.
He wasn’t wrong. The Grizzlies dished out 33 assists on 38 made field goals. That’s the kind of ball movement that makes Summer League coaches smile and front office folks start dreaming.
A New Era in Memphis
Boozer is stepping into a franchise that looks completely different than it did two seasons ago. The Grizzlies moved on from Ja Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr. during and after the 2025-26 season, clearing the way for a full rebuild centered around the former Duke star.
That’s a lot of pressure for any rookie, but Boozer handled his first game like he’d been there before. He shot efficiently, moved the ball and didn’t force anything. For a Summer League debut, you couldn’t ask for much more.
Memphis had seven players score in double figures. Olivier Maxence-Prosper led the way with 17 points and five rebounds. Taylor Hendricks added 15 points and four boards. Jahmai Mashack chipped in 12 points and four assists, while Cedric Coward, Javon Small and Carson Cooper each dropped 11.
The Grizzlies shot the lights out from deep, knocking down 17 three-pointers. The Thunder managed just six. That kind of gap explains a 37-point win pretty neatly.
What’s Next
Memphis stays in Utah for their next Summer League game against the Jazz on July 6 at 9 p.m. ET. Boozer will get his first look at another young team trying to find its way, but the early returns suggest the Grizzlies’ future might be arriving ahead of schedule.
