Brandon Aiyuk posted a video on his Instagram story Thursday. He’s dancing. Nothing unusual for a wide receiver in July. But the song choice and the caption have the internet reading between the lines.
The 49ers wideout, who has been openly pushing for a trade or release all offseason, appears to believe he’ll be a Washington Commander soon. Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team shared the clip on X, and it’s been looping in NFL circles ever since.
Aiyuk has made it clear he wants out of San Francisco. He’s called out the team on social media. He’s asked for a release. And the Commanders have been the team he’s mentioned most often, both in private conversations and public signals. This dance video is just the latest hint.
It’s worth remembering Aiyuk missed the entire 2025 season. That knee injury he suffered in 2024 was brutal. It cut that season short too. So there’s real uncertainty about what he’ll look like when he gets back on the field. But before the injury, he looked like one of the league’s most explosive young receivers. He could give Washington a boost in a receiving corps that took a major step back last year.
The 49ers don’t seem to be in any rush. They’ve let this drag out. Maybe they’re waiting for the right offer. Maybe they’re hoping he changes his mind. But Aiyuk’s body language — and his Instagram feed — suggest he’s already checked out.
Still, no deal is done. The team hasn’t confirmed anything. And Aiyuk is technically still under contract. But when a player starts dancing to fight songs and tagging potential new cities, it’s usually not a coincidence.
