Anthony Davis Liked the Lakers’ Spending Spree and Everyone Knows Why

Anthony Davis is still on the Washington Wizards. That seems important to mention because for a while there, the rumors had him getting traded before he even suited up for the team. But Washington plans to build around Davis, Trae Young, and No. 1 pick AJ Dybantsa for the 2026-27 season. So he’s staying. For now.

Anyway, Davis’s old team, the Los Angeles Lakers, just went on a shopping spree in free agency. They traded for Walker Kessler. They signed Collin Sexton. They added a bunch of other guys. And Davis apparently found the whole thing pretty funny.

A fan account on X posted something that basically said: Davis begged Rob Pelinka for years to get him a center. Pelinka didn’t do it. Davis left. LeBron left. And now Pelinka is suddenly acting like a competent GM. Davis didn’t write a long response. He just dropped five laughing emojis.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

That’s it. That’s the entire response. And honestly, it says a lot.

The irony isn’t lost on anyone

Davis spent years asking for a traditional big man to play next to him. The Lakers never made it happen. Pelinka always had a reason not to. There was the cap situation. There was the disastrous Russell Westbrook trade that ate up assets. There were LeBron’s roster demands. It wasn’t as simple as just signing a center.

But now Davis is gone. LeBron is gone. And suddenly the Lakers are out there grabbing centers and scoring guards like they’re playing a video game on easy mode. Of course Davis notices. Anyone would.

It’s not like Davis and LeBron’s huge salaries made things easy for Pelinka. They didn’t. But the contrast is hard to miss. The Lakers couldn’t find a center for Davis. Now they can’t stop signing them.

A little bitterness? Probably

Davis doesn’t seem like the type to hold a grudge forever. But the guy is human. He wanted help. He didn’t get it. Now his old team is spending like they just found a winning lottery ticket. The laughing emojis say what words don’t need to.

Whether Davis ever gets that ring in Washington is another question. But at least he gets to watch the Lakers’ new approach from a distance. And apparently, it’s pretty entertaining.
