Jude Bellingham has been the story of this World Cup. The guy just turned 23, already plays like he’s been doing this for a decade, and he’s been putting on shows that look scripted. England’s 4-2 win over Croatia, then man-of-the-match honors against Ghana and Panama. He’s been that guy.
But here’s the thing nobody expected. Bellingham doesn’t just want to be the next Bobby Moore lifting a trophy. He wants to be the next 007.
The Real Madrid star sat down with James Corden on Fox’s World Cup After Hours show, and the conversation took a turn you don’t usually get from a guy in the middle of a tournament run. Bellingham, who’s a legit movie nerd, started talking about acting. He said he’s always wanted to be in a film. And then he named the goal.
“I’d love to be James Bond,” Bellingham said. “I’ve watched all of them. The Sean Connery ones, Roger Moore, I’ve seen all of them. I love James Bond. I swear, I’d love to be in the back of a James Bond film. Maybe James Bond himself, but you’ve got to crawl before you can walk. They haven’t found a new Bond yet, have they?”
Corden, being Corden, made him do the line right there. “The name’s Bond, James Bond.” Bellingham laughed it off but didn’t back down. “I think I’ve got a shot,” he said. They also did the A Few Good Men courtroom exchange, which was probably a little rough but the guy’s a footballer, not an actor. Yet.
The Bond casting director has thoughts
Debbie McWilliams has cast the last three James Bonds. She knows what she’s looking for. When The Independent asked her about Bellingham’s odds, she didn’t say no. But she did warn that the spotlight might be a problem.
“It is absolutely essential that he retains a total enigma,” McWilliams said. “We want to know as little about them personally as possible, because that’s what spies are.”
She added that she’d prefer “somebody who is completely out of the blue” for the role. That’s not exactly an endorsement for a guy getting interviewed by James Corden in the middle of a World Cup. But she didn’t rule him out either.
Bellingham’s got the initials. JB. That’s not nothing. And he’s got the look. Suave, cool under pressure, handles himself well on camera. He’s already been trending in fan conversations as one of the most charismatic players in the tournament. Some online speculation has already floated him as a candidate to replace Daniel Craig, alongside names like Jacob Elordi and Callum Turner. But Elordi’s an Oscar nominee and Turner’s a Chelsea fan. Bellingham’s a global star who just happens to be playing the sport of kings right now.
Realistically, this is probably a long shot. Bellingham’s got a decade of football left, maybe more. But the guy’s clearly thinking beyond the pitch. And if he keeps playing like he has been, maybe Hollywood comes calling sooner than anyone expects.
