Brandon Aiyuk isn’t holding back. The 49ers wide receiver posted a video to his YouTube channel this week where he went in on the team he’s still technically playing for. And it’s not one of those “We had some disagreements but we’re working through it” deals. It’s the other thing.
“The story is I don’t [expletive] with them [expletive] and I never will,” Aiyuk said in the video. “But, I forgive [people], you feel me? I’m trying to get better. I’m trying to grow. I’m trying to heal. So, I ain’t finna hold it against [them], but we is not cool. We won’t be cool and I will never be stepping in that building except for on October 19th when I come through with that [expletive] belt.”
October 19 is when the Commanders visit Levi’s Stadium for a Monday Night Football game. Aiyuk wants to be on the Washington sideline that night. He wants to reunite with his old Arizona State teammate Jayden Daniels. Problem is he signed a four-year, $120 million extension with San Francisco before the 2024 season. He’s still their property.
How we got here
The relationship started falling apart after the 49ers voided the remaining guaranteed money in his contract. The team said he didn’t participate in team-directed rehab after tearing his ACL, MCL and meniscus during the 2024 season. Aiyuk stopped showing up to the facility. In December 2025, San Francisco placed him on the reserve/left squad list.
Aiyuk also claimed a team executive showed up at his house unannounced to apologize for a confrontation involving a coach. He said that moment — instead of fixing things — only made him more frustrated.
“I ain’t finna hold it against [them], but we is not cool,” he said. The message is clear: whatever trust existed is gone.
What happens next
Aiyuk wants out. He wants Washington. But the 49ers still hold his contract. They can trade him, but they have no obligation to do it on his timeline. And with a $120 million deal already signed, any move is complicated.
The Commanders are reportedly interested. Daniels has publicly said he’d love to play with Aiyuk again. But nothing has happened yet. Both sides are stuck in a standoff that’s been dragging on for months.
Aiyuk made one thing clear though. Even if he’s not on the field, he plans to be at that October game. He’ll just be on the other side.
