Blues and Rangers Both Have Offers on the Table for Mason McTavish

The Anaheim Ducks have some decisions to make. And apparently, two teams are already waiting by the phone with offers.

According to NHL insider Pierre LeBrun, the St. Louis Blues and New York Rangers have both submitted trade proposals for Ducks forward Mason McTavish. LeBrun posted on X that he’s hearing both teams have their bids in, and Anaheim is listening.

McTavish is coming off a down year. After holding out before the 2025-26 season, he put up 17 goals and 41 points in 75 games. That’s a drop from his 22-goal, 52-point campaign the year before. But plenty of teams still see him as a second-line center, even if the Ducks shuffled him between the second and third lines and eventually had him playing left wing with Ryan Poehling and Cutter Gauthier.

The Blues make sense as a suitor. St. Louis missed the playoffs last season, and their current second-line center is Pius Suter. That’s a spot they’d probably like to upgrade. The Rangers, meanwhile, cratered to the worst record in the Eastern Conference and are clearly looking to shake things up.

Here’s the thing though. Anaheim isn’t desperate. The Ducks made the playoffs this season and advanced to the Second Round before losing to Vegas. They proved they can hang with the contenders. So if they’re going to move a young player like McTavish, they’re going to want something specific in return.

What do the Ducks need most? A defenseman. Their blue line took some hits, and that’s where the leverage sits. If the Blues or Rangers want McTavish bad enough, one of them might have to part with a quality blueliner to get it done.

No word yet on which offer Anaheim likes more, or if other teams are waiting in the wings. But the trade chatter is real, and both Western Conference and Eastern Conference clubs are in the mix.
