The Winnipeg Jets are keeping a young forward with serious AHL scoring pedigree in the fold. Isak Rosen signed a two-year contract extension worth $1.85 million on Wednesday, with an average annual value of $925,000 starting in the 2026-27 season.
Rosen was headed toward restricted free agency before this deal. The 23-year-old Swedish winger arrived in Winnipeg at the 2026 trade deadline as part of a March 6 blockbuster with the Buffalo Sabres. That trade sent defensemen Logan Stanley and Luke Schenn to Buffalo while the Jets also picked up defenseman Jacob Bryson, a 2026 fourth-round pick, and a 2027 second-rounder.
Mixed Results in the NHL So Far
Rosen split the 2025-26 season between Buffalo and Winnipeg. He finished with six goals and 10 points in 37 NHL games total. Before the trade he had seven points in 16 games with the Sabres. After joining the Jets he stayed in the lineup the rest of the way, scoring three goals in 21 appearances while mostly playing a bottom-six role.
The numbers aren’t eye-popping at the NHL level yet. But his production in the American Hockey League tells a different story.
AHL Dominance That’s Hard to Ignore
Rosen led the Rochester Americans with 25 goals in just 37 games during the 2025-26 season. He put up 43 points before getting called up to Buffalo. That performance earned him AHL Player of the Month honors for November 2025 after he posted 12 points (five goals, seven assists) in eight games.
His AHL career totals are legit. In 231 games with Rochester he’s got 185 points — 87 goals and 98 assists. He’s also produced 16 points in 27 Calder Cup Playoff games. Looking back, he had 50 points in 67 games during 2023-24 and followed that up with 55 points (including a team-leading 28 goals) in 61 games in 2024-25.
That kind of scoring doesn’t just disappear. The question is whether he can translate it to the NHL on a consistent basis.
Draft Pedigree and International Experience
The Sabres picked Rosen 14th overall in the 2021 NHL Draft. He’s appeared in 52 NHL games across parts of three seasons now, totaling six goals and 11 points. Not much to write home about yet.
But he’s shown up for Sweden on the international stage. Rosen won a bronze medal at the 2022 World Junior Championships, putting up five points in that tournament. Across the 2022 and 2023 World Juniors combined, he racked up 11 points in 14 games for Sweden.
With his entry-level contract behind him and this new two-year deal in place, Rosen now has some security. The Jets are betting his AHL success will eventually carry over. He’ll get every chance to earn a bigger NHL role this fall.
