Ben’Jarvius Shumaker posted on social media Tuesday that he was flipping his commitment from Ole Miss to Colorado. By Tuesday night, he was back with the Rebels.

The whole thing took less than 24 hours. Shumaker, a four-star defensive lineman, announced his return to Ole Miss in a lengthy statement on X (formerly Twitter), apologizing for the confusion and saying the process reaffirmed that Oxford is where he belongs.

Colorado got him for maybe a few hours. That’s it.

Shumaker originally shut down his recruitment and committed fully to Ole Miss. Then Tuesday came along and he flipped to Colorado. But he reversed course so fast that the entire back-and-forth played out before most fans even had time to process it.

“First and foremost, I want to thank God, my family, and every coach and program that has invested time, energy, and belief in me throughout this recruiting process,” Shumaker wrote. “After careful thought, prayer, and conversations with my family, I have decided to remain committed to Ole Miss and officially shut down my recruitment. I apologize for any confusion that may have come over the last several hours. This process has reaffirmed for me that Ole Miss is where I am meant to be.”

Pete Nakos of On3 reported the flip back to Ole Miss before Shumaker made it official himself.

What this means for the Rebels

Shumaker joins fellow 2027 commit Mitchell Turner as the headliners of Ole Miss’s class. Turner also committed Tuesday, so it was a busy day for defensive coordinator Pete Golding and his staff.

Ole Miss now has 17 commitments in the class. The class is ranked 17th nationally and 8th in the SEC, according to the major recruiting services. Not elite by SEC blueblood standards, but solid. And Shumaker’s size and athleticism — he’s listed at 6-foot-4 and around 270 pounds — gives Golding a versatile piece who can play inside or on the edge.

The recruiting cycle is still early. Lots can change. But for now, the Rebels held onto a guy who briefly looked like he was heading to Boulder.

Colorado coach Deion Sanders has been aggressive on the recruiting trail. He nearly pulled off a quick flip here. Just not quite quick enough to keep it.
