Yankees Blast Lil Wayne’s ‘Lollipop’ in Clubhouse After Jazz Chisholm Jr.’s Heroics

The New York Yankees have a sense of humor, and they’re not afraid to use it. After second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. got caught on camera enjoying a lollipop in the field during a game earlier this week, the team decided to lean into the moment. Following Tuesday night’s 4-3 win over the Detroit Tigers, the clubhouse speakers blared Lil Wayne’s 2008 classic ‘Lollipop’ as reporters walked in.

Greg Joyce of the New York Post noted the playlist choice, calling it a not-so-subtle nod to Chisholm’s infield snack. The moment was a lighthearted cap to a night where Chisholm’s bat did the talking.

Chisholm Delivers in the Clutch

Detroit jumped out to a 2-0 lead after three innings, and things looked dicey for the Yankees. But in the sixth, Chisholm stepped up and crushed a two-run home run to tie the game. New York added another run later and held on for the win. The final score: 4-3. That home run was the difference.

Chisholm is having a decent year so far, hitting .230 with 12 homers, 33 RBIs and 23 stolen bases through 75 games. That pace puts him on track for a 20-20 season, maybe even 30-30 if he stays healthy. Either way, the Yankees need him in the lineup every day.

Lollipop Gate Is Over, Apparently

The lollipop situation got some attention, but it sounds like it’s been handled behind closed doors. Don’t expect to see Chisholm with a sucker in his glove again. The team is focused on winning, and that’s exactly what they’re doing. The win pushed New York to 47-31 on the season, giving them a three-game lead in the AL East.

There’s something sweeter than a lollipop for this Yankees team, and it’s called October baseball. World Series glory is the goal, and if Chisholm keeps hitting like he did Tuesday, they’ll have a real shot.
