Buster Posey Shuts Down Logan Webb Trade Rumors. Here’s What He Said.

Buster Posey made it as clear as a guy possibly can. The Giants president of baseball operations told reporters Tuesday that San Francisco is not entertaining trade offers for Logan Webb. Full stop. No discussions. Not happening.

Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area relayed the news with a direct quote from Posey. The former Giants catcher said he’s not open to trade offers for the two-time All-Star. That’s about as definitive as it gets in late June when the rumor mill is churning at full speed.

The Giants are sitting at 31-46. They’re in fourth place in the NL West. Most people expect them to sell off pieces before the deadline. But Webb is apparently off the table completely.

Why the Giants Won’t Move Their Ace

Webb is 29 years old and throwing like an ace again. He’s got a 3.35 ERA with 70 strikeouts over 83.1 innings. Yes, he dealt with an injury earlier this season and had a rough stretch. But he’s rounding back into form. San Francisco sees him as the guy who can help turn this thing around in the next year or two.

And here’s the thing. He’s under contract through 2028. That’s not a rental. That’s a cornerstone. The Giants have him locked up for several more seasons at a very team-friendly deal. Trading him now would be selling low on a pitcher who could anchor a rotation for half a decade.

Rumors have popped up before about Webb being available. The team has shot them down before too. But Posey stepping up and saying it directly should kill most of the chatter. When the president of baseball ops publicly closes the door, agents and other front offices usually get the message.

What Happens If the Giants Don’t Turn It Around

Look. The Giants are bad right now. They might be bad next year too. If they’re still stuck in neutral by the 2026 trade deadline, Webb could absolutely become a trade candidate. That’s just how baseball works. Teams that aren’t winning don’t hang onto high-value assets forever.

Unless the Giants extend him again, there’s always a chance he gets moved down the road. But for now, Posey has made the call. Webb stays. The rotation stays intact. And the Giants will keep trying to figure out how to climb out of fourth place.

They play the Athletics at home Tuesday night. First pitch at 9:45 PM Eastern. Webb isn’t scheduled to start, but he’ll be there. In a Giants uniform. Exactly where Posey wants him.
