A disturbing situation involving Jets quarterback Geno Smith just took another turn. Police in Davie, Florida initially told reporters the assault investigation into Smith was closed. But now one detective is taking another look at the case.
Andy Slater of Fox Sports South Florida reported Monday that a Davie police spokesperson originally said the case was no longer open. Hours later the department clarified that a detective will investigate further. So much for that being settled.
The NFL will almost certainly launch its own investigation under the Personal Conduct Policy. Smith could also face criminal charges depending on what the Davie detective finds.
The allegations against Smith
Over the weekend a woman named Kristen posted a video on Instagram Stories accusing Smith of assault. The caption was brutal. She wrote that Smith beat her because he hates taking care of his special needs child and would rather watch porn and play Call of Duty. The video spread fast on social media.

Kristen followed up with more posts. She claimed Smith refused to give police the home security footage that would show the attack. In another video she said Smith took her purse and keys so she couldn’t leave his property.
Smith has not responded publicly to any of the allegations. His agent has not issued a statement.
What this means for the Jets
Smith rejoined the Jets this offseason in a trade, returning to the team that drafted him in 2013. His career took him through the Giants, Chargers, Seahawks and Raiders after that first stint in New York. His 2025 season in Las Vegas was rough — he led the league with 17 interceptions in 15 games.
Now that comeback story is on hold. The Jets have not commented on the situation. Camp starts in a few weeks and this is going to hang over everything until there’s some resolution. The NFL usually moves fast on domestic violence cases under the Personal Conduct Policy, but the league also tends to wait for law enforcement to finish its work.
For now Smith is still on the roster. But the investigation is open again and that changes the math completely.
