Chad Johnson is not backing down. Not even a little bit.
The former NFL wide receiver turned sports media personality has been saying for months that Giannis Antetokounmpo will end up with the Miami Heat. And with Boston reportedly gaining traction as a possible landing spot, Johnson doubled down hard on his latest appearance on “Nightcap,” the show he hosts with Shannon Sharpe.
“As y’all know, I’ve said it multiple times over the months. The sources that I do have, they know what they’re talking about,” Johnson said. “Which is why I’ve came on here and say things that I’ve said. All the other stuff, with Boston, and him going anywhere, none of that is going to happen. That’s just created dialogue to keep people guessing on where he might go.”
Johnson didn’t name his sources. But he sounded pretty sure of himself. And he’s been beating this drum long enough that it’s worth paying attention to, even if nobody has officially confirmed anything.
The Boston noise won’t go away
Look, the Celtics are a legit contender in the East and they have assets. They’ve got young players, tradeable contracts, and picks. On paper, they could put together a package that would make Milwaukee think twice. That’s why the rumors won’t die.
But Johnson is basically saying all that chatter is smoke. Misdirection. A way for the basketball media machine to keep clicks coming while the real deal quietly gets done behind the scenes.
His argument? The Heat have the culture, the front office, and the Jimmy Butler timeline that fits a Giannis acquisition. Miami has been linked to every big name that’s come available in recent years, and they’ve gotten more than a few of them. Johnson seems to think this is just the next one.
No timetable, but the chatter keeps building
The Heat have been labeled as a finalist for Giannis by multiple outlets. The Celtics are right there too, at least in public perception. But Johnson keeps pointing at Miami like it’s the only real option.
He also brushed off the idea that Giannis could go anywhere else. “That’s just created dialogue to keep people guessing,” he said. If you’re a Heat fan, that sounds great. If you’re a Celtics fan, you probably rolled your eyes and scrolled past.
One thing is clear: this story isn’t going anywhere. Until Giannis either signs an extension or requests a trade, the speculation will keep flying. And Chad Johnson will keep reminding everyone that he heard it first.
More details should come out in the next few weeks. Or they won’t. That’s how these things usually go.
